An Association Study of Mental Health and Occupational Stress among University Personnel

ABSTRACT

This study examined the association and strength of association between mental health and occupational stress. 88 university professors from The Shivaji University, Kolhapur and Mumbai University, Mumbai were selected randomly for the present study. Mental health scale by Anandkumar and Thakur and occupational stress index by A. K. Srivastav and A. P. Singh were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics namely mean Mean, SD and ‘r’) and inferential statistics (regression analysis) to analyze the obtained data. Results revealed significant negative correlation between mental health and occupational stress. Additionally, using the simple regression analysis revealed that mental health contributed 17% (R-square = .165) to the variance in Occupational Stress and this was found to be significant (F(1,86) = 16.946, p < .01). This result was significant indicating that mental health is predictor of occupational stress.
