ABSTRACT

Neurological manifestations are the initial symptoms of HIV infection in about 10 to 20% of patients. HIV enters the brain as early as two days after infection, and persists throughout the course of the disease. About 60% of those with advanced AIDS will have clinically evident Neurological dysfunction. Autopsy studies have demonstrated pathological abnormities of the nervous system in 75 to 90% of cases.
