ABSTRACT
This research aims to understand the relationship between adult attachment styles and conflict management strategies among young adults aged 18 to 29 in the Indian context. The study looks into the how adult attachment styles (anxious and avoidant) relate to the various conflict management styles (competition, collaboration, compromise, avoidance, and accommodation), and whether specific attachment styles influence preferences for conflict resolution approaches. A sample of 135 Indian participants was surveyed. Results indicate significant correlations between conflict management styles and adult attachment styles. Specifically, both avoidance attachment and anxiety attachment show a significant positive correlation with avoiding conflict management style and a negative correlation with collaboration. Additionally, there are significant differences between genders in collaboration and competing, with females generally scoring higher in collaboration and lower in competing compared to males. These results offer insights into the interplay between attachment styles and conflict management strategies in Indian young adults, highlighting the importance of considering cultural contexts in understanding interpersonal dynamics.
