Affect Schedules and Emotional Intelligence among Adult Orphans of Malabar Shelter Homes: A Correlational Study

ABSTRACT

Psychological well-being of orphans and the underlying factors has been a significant area of study in the recent past. This study examines the relationship between Affect schedules and Emotional Intelligence among young adult orphans residing in Malabar shelter homes. Purposive sampling was done with a sample size of 120 orphans (60 males and 60 females). Standardized tools such as PANAS scale by Watson. D et al., (1988) and Schutte self-report emotional intelligence test by Schutte Malouff et al., (1998) were used. The statistical tools included in this study were Pearson Correlation and Independent Sample t test. Results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between Affect schedules and Emotional Intelligence among young adult orphans and a correlation between the variables affect and emotional intelligence which is positive. The study also concluded that there exist no significant gender differences in affect schedules and emotional intelligence among adult orphans.
