ABSTRACT
Objective: This narrative review aims to examine the roles of religiosity and spirituality in the lives of people with disabilities (PWDs), focusing on their implications for coping, social integration, and overall well-being. Methods: The review synthesizes existing literature on religiosity and spirituality. It defines religiosity as the depth of religious belief and practice, encompassing communal and individual expressions of faith, while spirituality is characterized by personal growth and the pursuit of meaning beyond organized religion. Results: The findings highlight how faith and spiritual practices can provide essential emotional support and foster resilience among PWDs. Significant challenges faced by this population in accessing spiritual resources are identified, including physical barriers and societal stigmas that may lead to exclusion from religious communities. The review also acknowledges potential pitfalls of religiosity and spirituality, such as hyper-religiosity and the marginalization of individuals within faith contexts. Conclusion: The review emphasizes the necessity for inclusive practices to illuminate the diverse experiences of PWDs and promote holistic approaches to their well-being. It calls for ongoing research to explore the intersection of disability, religiosity, and spirituality, aiming to inform healthcare practices and support networks. Ultimately, the findings advocate for a deeper understanding of how these dimensions can be integrated into the lives of PWDs, fostering a more inclusive spiritual environment that recognizes and values their unique experiences and needs.
