Internet Addiction as Correlate of Psychological Well-being among Young Adults

ABSTRACT
Internet as a technical tool facilitates human’s life and establishes itself as an essential part of our life but its excessive use leads towards functional abnormalities and dependence of people’s on it. In order to elucidate the relationship between Internet Addiction and Psychological Well-being among young adults with a focus on gender differences and highlight the role of Internet overuse in damaging our mental and physical well-being, the present study is conducted. The sample consists of 100 University students of age group (19-24). The participants were contacted individually and were given a set of questionnaires that includes Internet Addiction Questionnaire and Psychological Well-being Scale. The relationship between Internet Addiction and Psychological Well-being is examined using Correlation matrix. The findings reveal a strong inverse relationship between Internet Addiction and Psychological Well-being, with its dimensions also. Additionally, a strong positive relationship is discovered between the different dimensions of Psychological Well-being whereas increase in the level of Internet usage is linked with decrease in social participation and increase in psychological weakness.
