ABSTRACT

The present study was undertaken to investigate the self-concept of high and low achieving school students in Ranchi town. For this purpose, participants were selected based on two levels of achievement (high and low) and two levels of gender (boys and girls). A total of 160 students from government schools were selected. Thus, a 2×2 factorial design was employed, resulting in four strata. From each stratum, 40 students were randomly selected. The Self-Concept Rating Scale developed by Dr. S. P. Ahluwalia and Dr. Hari Shankar Singh was used to collect the data. The results revealed that the level of self-concept varied across the total sample and its different subgroups. There was a significant effect of gender and achievement level on self-concept. However, no significant interaction effect of gender and achievement level was found on the self-concept of school students in Ranchi town.
