ABSTRACT

Parenting a differently abled child often brings emotional, social and practical challenges that may affect the parent’s overall well-being and ability to cope effectively with daily demands. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between Self-efficacy and Resilience among parents of differently abled. Although several studies have examined self-efficacy and resilience independently, there is limited research that specifically explores the relationship between these two variables among parents of differently abled children, particularly within the Indian context. A Convenience sampling method was ensued to elect 30 parents (both mother and father) having differently abled children from Thrissur city as a sample of the study. General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) were employed to assess the self – efficacy and resilience of the participants. A quantitative approach with correlation design is used to understand the relationship between Self-efficacy and Resilience. The result showed that there is a significant positive correlation between Self-efficacy and Resilience, indicating that parents with higher self-efficacy tends to exhibit greater resilience in managing the demands of raising a differently abled child. This highlights the importance of strengthening self-efficacy as a pathway to enhancing resilience, ultimately supporting the psychological well-being of parents and helping them navigate their caregiving journey with greater strength and adaptability.
