ABSTRACT
The achievement test in social studies has been developed and standardized by the investigator for class IX under PSEB. The procedure for developing the achievement test in social studies includes planning, preparation, item selection, try-out, scoring, and item analysis. Initially, the test comprised 162 multiple-choice items. However, after discussions with experts and administrators regarding student feedback, the number of items was reduced to 100. Data analysis involved using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and independent samples t-test. Following thorough item analysis, the final draft of the test was reduced to 60 items. Test-retest reliability was found to be 0.88, and validity was established through content validity methods. The findings indicated that the achievement test in social studies was highly valid, supported by a proper distribution of content in the table of specifications, and reliable with an estimated reliability of 0.96. Additionally, the achievement test showed good difficulty and discriminatory indices, ranging from 0.5 to 0.7 and 0.10 to 0.50, respectively. Items that were either very difficult or very easy based on these ranges were eliminated, resulting in a final set of 60 items. Based on the study’s findings, it is recommended that teachers use this test for assessing secondary school students in social studies.
