ABSTRACT
Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots into everyday communication has transformed digital social interactions. This study explores how AI-driven conversations influence social cognition and emotional regulation, particularly among socially anxious individuals. Using validated psychological assessments—including the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test (RMET), Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3), De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale, and Three-Item Loneliness Scale— evaluate the extent to which AI chatbots foster social adaptation or promote social withdrawal. Findings suggest that structured chatbot engagement can enhance social cognition and emotional resilience. However, excessive reliance on AI for social interaction correlates with increased social avoidance. The study underscores the need for balanced AI-human interactions to optimize psychological well-being.
