ABSTRACT
This study aims to assess the relationship between assertiveness and conflict resolution strategies in romantic relationships amongst young adults. It explores the communication styles and conflict resolution strategies used by young adults in romantic relationships, with a focus on assertiveness. It examines differences between high and low assertiveness levels and their correlation with specific conflict strategies. The goal is to understand preferred communication skills and how assertiveness shapes conflict dynamics among young adults in India. The sample size was N=108, and Peterson Assertiveness Questionnaire (PAQ) and Romantic Partner Conflict Scales (RPCS) were used for data collection. Obtained data was analyzed using SPSS. Results reveal that young adults prefer assertive, calm communication in romantic conflicts, favoring compromise, with assertiveness linked to both submission and reactivity. Passiveness was related to the use of avoidance and submission, and aggressiveness was found significantly positively related to emotional reactivity. Limitations and future implications for the study have been mentioned.
