ABSTRACT

This study examines the importance of interest in career choice among junior college students, focusing on gender differences. A total of 100 students (50 males and 50 females), aged 18-21, from junior colleges in the Aurangabad district were selected using a purposive sampling method. The Multi-factor Interest Inventory, designed to measure career-related interests, was employed as the primary research tool. Data were analyzed using a t-test to determine differences in interests between male and female students across various dimensions. The findings revealed significant gender-based differences. Male students demonstrated higher interest levels in Business, Clerical, Agricultural, Mechanical, Scientific, and social domains, with t-values ranging from 3.42 to 9.65, all statistically significant at the 0.01 level. In contrast, female students exhibited greater interest in Aesthetic and Outdoor areas, although these differences were less pronounced. These results indicate that male students are more inclined toward practical and technical fields, while female students lean toward creative and aesthetic pursuits. The study highlights the critical role of gender in shaping career interests, emphasizing the need for gender-sensitive career counseling and educational guidance to help students align their career choices with their interests. Tailored interventions can support students in exploring their preferences, fostering informed decision-making, and enhancing satisfaction with their chosen career paths. These insights are valuable for educators, policymakers, and counselors aiming to address the diverse aspirations of students.
