ABSTRACT

Parenting styles comprise one of the most influential aspects of human life because parenting is a part of how we grow up and how it affects us for a long time. Childhood experiences with our parents shape how we feel and deal with things, coping strategies, communication patterns, attachment tendencies, and relationship expectations with loved ones that persist into adulthood. This research paper looks at how our parents raised us when we were kids and how it affects our emotions when we are grown up. This paper also focuses on four major parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful. The main focus area in this paper is to see the impact of parenting practices on emotional regulation, communication, competence, conflict resolution, and relationship satisfaction among adults aged 18 to 40 years. The current literature provides the better outlook for the authoritative parenting, which is generally associated with health, emotional regulation, greater emotional awareness, effective communication, and positive relationship outcomes. On the other hand, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful parenting styles have been linked to emotional dysregulation, communication difficulties, conflict avoidance, rejection sensitivity, and lower relationship satisfaction. Through this paper, we will find out how childhood parenting experiences impact adults ‘ emotional and interpersonal functioning. Hence, it is important for parents to be kind and caring toward their children so they can grow up to be happy and have healthy relationships with people.
