ABSTRACT
This research paper provides an extensive, systematic review of the literature on the integration of Anapanasati and Vipassana meditation as transformative tools for holistic development. The study divides previous research into four interrelated categories: physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. The review looks at how Anapanasati and Vipassana can improve physiological health and sensory awareness within the bodily dimension. The psychological component explores the workings of the mind, emphasizing how these techniques deal with the underlying causes of addiction by reducing cravings and calming a wandering mind. It also assesses how these practices improve cognitive clarity, decision-making, and the development of Sattvaguna, which results in increased life satisfaction in behavioral and social aspects. By raising practitioners’ awareness of the causes of suffering through the cultivation of Metta-Bhawana (loving kindness), the study examines how meditation promotes social responsibility and universal brotherhood while also reducing criminal tendencies. The path of Kayannupassana, where the sensations of cravings (Raga) and aversion (Dvesha) result in a state of equanimity (samatta) and inner calm, is finally examined by the spiritual and intellectual dimension. This study concludes that Anapanasati and Vipassana provide a universal scientific and secular foundation for spiritual development and ethical living, successfully addressing contemporary psychological and social challenges across all cultural and religious backgrounds. It does this by synthesizing various scholarly perspectives.
