ABSTRACT

The present study explores the relationship between happiness and emotional intelligence (EQ) among college-going students. The research aimed to examine gender differences in various dimensions of emotional intelligence, including understanding emotions, motivation, empathy, and handling relationships, while also analyzing variations in self-reported happiness. The study used randomised sampling techniques to utilise a sample of 100 college students (50 males and 50 females) selected from colleges in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Emotional intelligence was measured using the Emotional Intelligence Scale by Arun Kumar Singh and Shruti Narain. In contrast, happiness was assessed through relevant subscales of the Anxiety, Depression, and Stress Scale (ADSS) by Bhatnagar, Singh, and Pandey. The results revealed significant gender differences in emotional intelligence and happiness. Male students scored significantly higher in all dimensions of emotional intelligence, including understanding emotions, motivation, empathy, and handling relationships. However, female students reported considerably higher levels of happiness than their male counterparts. These findings suggest that gender-related socialization patterns and psychological factors influence emotional intelligence and happiness.
