The Impact of Perceived Social Support and Gender on Quality of Life of HIV Patients

ABSTRACT

An investigation was made to study the impact of perceived social support and gender on quality of life of HIV patients. The sample of present study consisted of 100 HIV patients (50 males and 50 females) form S. N. medical college. Their age range were 24-45 years. The standard tools were used to assess social support and quality of life of HIV patients. Social support scale by Zimet et al (1988) and quality of life scale by Sharma and Nasreen (2017) were used. Data was analyzed by using two way analysis of variance to study the effect of perceived social support on quality of life of HIV patients, to study the effect of gender on quality of life of HIV patients and to study the interaction effect of social support and gender on quality of life of HIV patients. The result indicates that there is significant effect was found between social support (High and Low) on quality of life (p<0.01) HIV patients with high social support showed higher level of quality of life in comparison to low social support. There was no significant effect of gender on quality of life of HIV patients (p > .05) and there was no significant interaction effect of gender and social support on quality of life of HIV patients (p>.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the HIV patients who have high social support they have good quality of life as compare to how have low social support.
