ABSTRACT

Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a condition characterized by an impaired ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse social, occupational, or health consequences. Symptoms include strong cravings, loss of control over drinking, withdrawal symptoms, and a need for increased amounts of alcohol to achieve the same effect. Alcohol use is strongly linked to increased aggression, as it impairs judgment, reduces impulse control, and heightens emotional reactivity. This can contribute to domestic and familial violence, escalating conflicts into to verbal or physical abuse. The present study aims to examine such manifestations among males with AUD through three case reports from an in-patient rehabilitative setting. The cases illustrate different patterns of aggression and how personalised, multi-modal interventions can be effectively applied to manage alcohol dependence, related aggression and support long-term recovery.
