ABSTRACT
The study aims to explore the influence of marital status on personality traits among women in Beed District, Maharashtra, India. Using the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI), personality traits such as openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism were examined in 100 participants, evenly divided into 50 married and 50 unmarried women aged 30-40 years. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in personality traits based on marital status. Unmarried women scored higher on openness and extraversion, reflecting a greater inclination towards new experiences and sociability. Conversely, married women scored higher on conscientiousness and agreeableness, indicating greater responsibility and cooperative behavior. Married women also exhibited higher neuroticism, suggesting increased emotional instability, stress, and anxiety linked to marital and familial pressures. These findings provide valuable insights into how marital status influences personality traits, contributing to the understanding of psychosocial factors shaping women’s lives.
