ABSTRACT
The present study investigates the relationship between happiness, emotional intelligence, and mental health among college students. A total of 130 students aged 18 to 24 from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar City, Maharashtra, participated in the study. Based on their scores on a standardized Happiness Scale, students were categorized into two groups: high happiness (n = 50) and low happiness (n = 50). Emotional intelligence and mental health were measured using standardized tools. Statistical analysis was performed using an independent samples t-test and Pearson Product Moment Coefficient Correlation. The results revealed that students with high happiness levels scored significantly higher in emotional intelligence (M = 33.65, SD = 3.78) than those with low happiness levels (M = 28.45, SD = 4.02), t(98) = 6.66, p < .01. Similarly, students with high happiness levels exhibited better mental health (M = 98.45, SD = 5.02) compared to their low-happiness counterparts (M = 89.36, SD = 5.09), t(98) = 8.99, p < .01. A strong positive correlation was observed between happiness, emotional intelligence (r = .79, p < .01), and mental health (r = .81, p < .01). These findings underscore the critical role of happiness in enhancing emotional intelligence and mental health. The study highlights the need for interventions promoting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive mental health among college students.
