ABSTRACT

Digital nostalgia, a phenomenon increasingly facilitated by digital platforms through memory prompts and archives, has become a pervasive part of modern life. This study explores its emotional impact, focusing on mood regulation and psychological well-being (N = 8). As users are presented with curated memories of the past, the emotional resonance of these moments can significantly affect their present experiences. Through qualitative methods and semi-structured interviews, findings reveal that digital nostalgia evokes a mix of emotions—joy, comfort, sadness, and regret. While it fosters emotional healing, personal reflection, and growth, it may also lead to emotional overload and feelings of loss. Digital nostalgia emerges as a tool for self-reflection and identity shaping, influencing both positive and negative emotional responses and playing a critical role in mood regulation and psychological well-being. This research highlights the dual-edged nature of digital nostalgia, underscoring its relevance in understanding modern emotional experiences.
