ABSTRACT
This study investigates the role of tuition hours and parental employment on perceived parent-adolescent relationships. The quality of both mother and father relationship with their child was measured using a Parent-Adolescent Relationship Scale. The research was quantitative with a cross-sectional design employing a purposive sample of 200 students selected from schools all over Ahmedabad, India. A 2×4 factorial design was used with parental employment and tuition hours. Two-way ANOVA with HC3 heteroscedasticity corrections was employed to dependent variables; mother-adolescent relationship and father-adolescent relationship. Tuition hours significantly affected both mother-adolescent, F(3,192) = 8.62, p < .001, η²p = 0.116, and father-adolescent relationship scores, F(3,192) = 6.58, p < .001, η²p = 0.089. Higher tuition was related to lower relationship scores, particularly in the high tuition group compared to the low tuition group. Findings indicate that tuition involvement outweighs parental employment status in parent–adolescent relationship quality among Indian students.
