Postpartum Depression in A New Mother: A Case Study

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a significant mental health concern affecting new mothers, leading to emotional distress, impaired mother-infant bonding, and adverse effects on child development. This case study examines A.S., a 28-year-old female diagnosed with PPD at three months postpartum. In spite of the strong support network, she also had persistent emotional numbing, excessive fatigue, and trouble with bonding with the child. Through systematic therapeutic interventions, such as psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness exercises, A.S. showed significant improvement in mood, self-esteem, and maternal attachment. This case highlights the need for early detection, systematic psychotherapy, and involvement of the support system in treating PPD successfully.
