ABSTRACT
This comparative study explores the awareness and understanding of depressive disorders among psychology and non-psychology students. Using a non-standardized survey administered to 100 participants (50 psychology students and 50 non-psychology students), the research investigates whether psychology students possess a more nuanced comprehension of depression compared to their peers. The results, analyzed using non-parametric tests, reveal no significant difference in awareness levels between the two groups, challenging the assumption that psychology students are inherently more informed about mental health conditions. These findings emphasize the need for enhanced mental health literacy in psychology education and public awareness initiatives to bridge the gap between clinical understanding and societal perceptions of depression.
