ABSTRACT

This study investigated the influence of psychosocial factors on career decision-making among 200 pre-university students in Uttar Pradesh, India, using a correlational research design. Participants completed questionnaires assessing peer pressure, parental career behavior, and career decisions. The results revealed a significant negative correlation between peer pressure and academic performance (r=-0.155, p<0.05) and career decisions (r=-0.341, p<0.01). Regression analysis showed that peer pressure significantly predicted career decisions (p<0.05), while parental career behavior did not (p>0.05). Gender differences were observed in perceived parental career behavior, with females scoring higher than males. The findings highlight the importance of peer pressure in shaping career choices and the need for targeted career counseling services. Further research is necessary to explore the complex relationships between these variables and their implications for career development interventions. The study’s limitations include the use of purposive sampling and the potential influence of additional variables not captured by the chosen tools. The results emphasize the significance of providing counseling services to parents and students to enhance decision-making skills related to career choice.
