ABSTRACT

The Suicidal ideation and depression in young adults have several physical, psychosocial implications and risks factors in life for both the male and female gender. The present study is aimed to assess and identify the intensity of the suicidal tendency and depression among health care college students due to various environmental factors, psychological factor and physiological factors based on the age, gender, birth order, area of residence and living arrangement which then alters the quality of life (QoL) in students. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect samples of 38 male and 127 female, aged between 18 to 26 years evidently shows a significant relationship in depression and suicidal and thereby emerging the necessity and importance to stabilize the emotional imbalance and to restore the mental health of the health care students, The tools used were Beck Depression inventory (BDI), Suicidal Ideation Scale (SIS). The Results of descriptive statistics and tests revealed that the participants had various physiological and psychological distress which affects the mental health of the healthcare students. However, it is evident that suicidal ideation and depression have a considerable role in the Quality of Life (QoL) among healthcare students and hence there is an urgent need to address the students who are in struggles and need a support for their well-being and bright future. Age group, birth order, living arrangement had no significant impact therefore null hypothesis is accepted here whereas the gender and area of residence had contributed a huge role in having different depressions. A cross-sectional analysis denotes that there is a minimal association between depression and suicidal ideation. According to this study depression and different reasons for suicidal ideation had a connection between these variables. Henceforth students who are struggling with Depression and Suicidal ideation should be given proper attention and must exercise some psychosocial interventions or CBT to bring this forth under control for a better QoL.
