ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to identify the major challenges faced by women at their workplace across various occupational sectors through qualitative approach. The study was conducted in two stages. In the first stage, the researchers reviewed studies from the last ten years (2015–2025), to identify various career related issues and challenges. Taking into consideration, the insight generated in the first stage, an open-ended interview (containing twelve questions) was conducted online through google forms in the second stage of the study. A total of one hundred and ten participants (N=110; age range between 27-50 years) provided complete information regarding the survey. The major themes and subthemes that emerged in the interview were- work-family conflict, gender discrimination at work, lesser training and developmental opportunities, differential and negative attitude of men towards women, male dominated work culture and male egoism, stereotypical beliefs about women at work, underlying natural health problems, job stress and mental pressure, lack of workplace social support, lesser informal networks. Recommendations for future were discussed.
