A Study of Occupational Stress among the Public and Private Banks Employees

ABSTRACT
This Study purpose that a Study of occupational stress among the public and private banks employees. Objectives: To examine occupational stress (Role overload, Role ambiguity, Role conflict, Group and political pressures, Responsibility for person, Under participation, Powerlessness, Poor peer relations, Intrinsic impoverishment, Low status, Strenuous working conditions, Unprofitability) among the public and private banks employees. Hypotheses: There is no significant difference Between the public and private banks employees with dimension occupational stress on Role overload, Role ambiguity, Role conflict, Group and political pressures, Responsibility for person, Under participation, Powerlessness, Poor peer relations, Intrinsic impoverishment, Low status, Strenuous working conditions, Unprofitability. Methodology– Sample: Total sample of present study 100 banks employees, in which 50 were public banks employees (25 Male and 25 Female employees) and 50 private banks employees (25 Male and 25 Female employees). Both groups sample banks employees from Kanpur and Varanasi, Dist. in Uttar Pradesh States. Non-Probability purposive of Accident dental Sample Design was selected and the subject selected in this sample was age group of 18-50 year. Variables- The independent variables are Types of Banks employees (public and private banks employees), and Dependent variables are occupational stress (Role overload, Role ambiguity, Role conflict, Group and political pressures, Responsibility for person, Under participation, Powerlessness, Poor peer relations, Intrinsic impoverishment, Low status, Strenuous working conditions, Unprofitability). Research Design: 2×2 Factorial Designs used in the present study. Research Tools- Occupational Stress Index (OSI) developed & standardized by Prof. S. K. Srivastava and Prof. A. P. Singh. Statistical Treatment: Mean SD and ANOVA. Conclusions: 1) Public banks Employees high Role overload, Role conflict, Poor peer relations, intrinsic impoverishment than Private Banks employees. 2) Private Banks Employees High Role ambiguity, Powerlessness than public banks employees. 3) There is no significant difference between public and private banks employees on Group and political pressures, Responsibility for person, Under participation, Low status, strenuous working conditions, Unprofitability and Occupational Stress.
