Does Attitude of Adolescents Towards Suicide Really Matter?

Background: Suicide became one amongst the daily news in our day to day life. Despite the very fact that suicide is preventable, yet the suicide rates among youth are mounting up in developing nations. Studies on attitude of youth towards suicide are of great interest to researchers worldwide, however there was limited number of studies been conducted in Indian population.  Methods: A systematic review executed on publications from the period of 2000-2015 in E- databases of Pub med, Psynet, PsycINFO, EBSCOT, AAP gate way.  English-language studies were included. Key words guiding the review are Suicide, Attitude, Attempted Suicide, Suicide Ideation, Adolescents. Narrative synthesis was used. Results:  Ten out of a total of 91potentially relevant articles were reviewed. Conclusion: It’s been evidenced that there are more permissive attitudes towards suicide among adolescents are considerably related to suicide attempts. The stronger the attitude the greater the significance on the behaviour. Therefore, modification in attitude might aid in suicide prevention.
