The Relationship between Fear of Negative Evaluation, Achievement Motivation and Perfectionism

ABSTRACT

This study is about to know the relationship between Fear of Negative Evaluation over Achievement Motivation and Perfectionism. Fear of Negative Evaluation is nothing but apprehension about other’s evaluations, distress over their negative evaluation, avoidance of evaluative situations and the expectations that other would evaluate oneself negatively. The present study was done with 100 samples collected based on sampling method. The sample is collected upon college students. The study is done with three different questionnaires to find the relationship: Brief fear of negative evaluation (Leary), Deo-Mohan Achievement motivation scale(n-ach) (Deo-Mohan), Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (Frost et al.) Pearson bivariate correlation method was used to find the correlation between these variables. The relationship between fear of negative evaluation, achievement motivation and perfectionism were analysed. Considering the sample size, non-parametric statistics such as correlation was used. The results of the present study show a significant positive relationship between fear of negative evaluation and perfectionism. There was also significant positive correlation between achievement motivation and perfectionism.
